The Masovian Railways - KM company was established on 29 July 2004 by the Masovian Province Local Government (51% of shares) and 'PKP Przewozy Regionalne' sp. z o.o. (49% of shares). It commenced transport operations on 1 January 2005.

On 8 January 2008, the Extraordinary Shareholders' Meeting of the Masovian Railways gave its consent for the sale of all of the company's shares held by the company's shareholder - 'PKP Przewozy Regionalne' sp. z o.o. - to the Masovian Province. As a result, the Masovian Province Local Government owns 100% of the shares of the Masovian Railways - KM.

Since 2005, the Masovian Railways have been providing regional rail passenger services on behalf of the Masovian Province Local Government.
